Graduate Certificate Programs


 

Graduate Certificate Program Curriculum

Progression

Students in the Certificate tracks are expected to adhere to the policies and procedures in the Graduate Handbook and of the College of Nursing.

Technology Proficiency

All entering Mount Carmel students are required to demonstrate a minimum level of computer and internet competency. Students enrolled in on-line courses must demonstrate this competency prior to the start of the first course.

A new student will not be permitted to enroll for the second semester until successful completion of the technology proficiency requirement. The technology proficiency is an independent self-study course students must complete during the first semester of enrollment. For additional assistance or computer help sessions, contact the Office of Center for Learning and Scholarship.

The student must have the ability to:

  1. Log onto the Internet and other applications with a user ID and password.
  2. Use a search engine on the Internet.
  3. Use the Library databases to retrieve articles.
  4. Receive, send, and reply to email.
  5. Develop, file, revise, edit, and print Word® documents.
  6. Attach documents/files to email messages and/or assignments.
  7. Follow and participate in an online discussion or chat.

Online Courses

Any onsite program student who wishes to enroll in an online course must have a minimum level of computer competency in order to be successful. Tutorials are provided to assist the student to develop or refresh computer skills. All tutorials are to be completed prior to starting an online course. Students will be required to demonstrate minimum computer competence by successfully completing the technology proficiency prior to starting an online course.

Computer Hardware and Software Requirements for Online courses

The following are suggested minimal personal computer requirements if purchasing a new computer. You may be able to access College course materials using computers with lower specifications.

  • Modern computer (PC, Mac, or Linux machine) with adequate RAM (2 GB), Hard Drive space (250 GB), and processing speed (Dual core processor – at least 1 GHz)
  • Audio card and computer speakers for online media content
  • Video Card (128 MB memory)
  • Access to the Internet via high-speed connection (Cable, DSL, fiber, WiMax, etc.)
  • Modern Internet browser software such as Internet Explorer 6.0 (or higher), Firefox 2.5 (or higher), or Safari.
  • Most recent version of Adobe PDF
  • Adobe Flash Player (appropriate to browser)
  • Multi-purpose video player, such as VLC Media Player
  • Updated anti-virus software – free AVG Anti-virus
  • Office productivity suite capable of creating/editing/reading MS Office 2003 file version (acceptable products include OpenOffice.org, NeoOffice, thinkfree, StarOffice, IBM Lotus Symphony, and Microsoft Office). Microsoft Office 2007/2010 Ultimate can be purchased at a discount from: http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx
  • A printer is required.

Note: The College has no support for documents created in Word Perfect or Microsoft Works.

Completion

In order to qualify for A Certificate of Completion, candidates must complete all the following requirements. A student deficient in any area will not receive his/her certificate until the requirement is complete.

  • Complete all academic requirements.
  • Program completion within 5 years of date of first enrollment
  • Complete all required coursework with a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA.
  • Fulfill all financial obligations to Mount Carmel College of Nursing.
  • Complete the student exit survey and interview with the Dean of the Graduate Program
  • Complete a Financial Aid Exit Interview (for students who received Federal Stafford Loans).
  • Complete a Business Affairs Exit Interview (for students who received Nursing Student Loans
  • Fulfill all financial and library obligations to Mount Carmel College of Nursing.
