Nursing Education (Online Program)

Mount Carmel College of Nursing’s Nursing Education track, offered online, prepares the professional nurse to enter the academic classroom and institutional staff development department as faculty to educate the next generation of nurses or to take on staff development responsibilities in a health care setting. This advanced professional will apply relevant research in nursing education and understand the ethical and legal issues associated with the role of an educator in nursing. The program will conclude with a practicum learning experience.

Nursing Education Student Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the Nursing Education track, graduates will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Assume advanced nursing roles in education
  2. Develop appropriate programs that respond to the educational and healthcare needs of diverse populations
  3. Use epidemiological, social and environmental data to draw inferences for the development of nursing education programs
  4. Facilitate the use of evidence-based practice in nursing curricula
  5. Design health promotion or disease prevention educational programs
  6. Evaluate nursing programs and policies to assure quality outcomes in nursing education
  7. Demonstrate leadership in nursing education
  8. Use ethical decision making in relevant practice and education roles
  9. Collaborate with other disciplines to achieve quality outcomes in nursing education, in both institutions of higher learning and healthcare institutions
  10. Promote nursing as a profession and a discipline
  11. Demonstrate scholarly inquiry about nursing and health systems through verbal and written communication in educational scholarship
  12. Analyzes ethical, legal, and social factors influencing policy
