NURS 583 - Assessment and Management of Mental Health Disorders I This is an online course with a virtual/in person immersion.
This course provides the psychiatric nurse practitioner with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver mental health care across the lifespan. Through the didactic and clinical experience in the course, students will learn how to manage mental illness in regard to the patient, family and community. Emphasis is placed on accurate diagnosis, evidence based clinical decision making, health promotion and education of the patient/guardian/family. Basic concepts and knowledge necessary for the diagnosis of mental illness is emphasized with integration of appropriate treatment as well. This course will incorporate every diagnostic category of mental illness across the lifespan with specific information associated with symptom development, disease course, functional consequences, diagnostic markers and prevalence of each diagnostic category of mental illness. 6 credit hours 150 Clinical Hours
