The Online Nursing Education track prepares the professional nurse for practice roles in academic settings and/or staff development. The course work builds on the foundation of strong professional practice. The curriculum is designed to provide the opportunity into the education of nurses.
Students graduating from the Nursing Education track will be eligible with the academic requirements for National League for Nursing Certified Nurse Educator examination.
Nursing Education Student Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the Nursing Education track, graduates will have the knowledge and skills to:
- Assume advanced nursing roles in education
- Develop culturally appropriate programs that respond to the educational & health care needs of diverse populations
- Use epidemiological, social, and environmental data to draw inferences for the development of nursing education programs
- Facilitate the use of evidence-based practice in nursing curricula
- Design health promotion and disease prevention educational programs
- Evaluate nursing education program(s) and policies to assure quality outcomes
- Demonstrate leadership in nursing education
- Use ethical decision making in relevant practice roles
- Collaborate with other disciplines to achieve quality outcomes in nursing education
- Promote nursing as a profession and a discipline
- Demonstrates scholarly inquiry through verbal and written communication in educational scholarship

Notes:
- NURS 501 AND NURS 505 must be taken the first semester.
- In Spring 2016, NURS 505 will transition to HUMN 505 as an 8-week course offered the first half of the semester. This course is recommended to be taken during the Fall Semester of the student’s first year, but will be offered as an option in Spring and Summer if sufficient enrollment permits.
- NURS 598 - Scholarly Manuscript Completion : if the scholarly manuscript is not satisfactory completed at the time of course completion, students must enroll in NURS 598 (see policy ).
- When completing the preceptored practicum, students must meet the compliance requirements of all agencies.
Nursing Education curriculum
Graduate Core: 13 credit hours
Direct Care Core: 9 credit hours
Functional Area Core: 16 credit hours
Please note: 5 additional credit hours will be announced in late October 2015 for Family and Adult Health Theory, with a practicum of 100 clnical hours.
