Graduate Certificate: Nursing Education


This program prepares licensed registered nurses, who already have a Master of Science in Nursing degree, for another exciting level of practice—the role of qualified educator in an academic or a healthcare setting. Master’s prepared nurses wanting to take their professional calling to another area of nursing will find that the four nursing education courses offered through the program will enhance their practices. This Certificate Program builds on previous knowledge obtained in the Master’s of Nursing program.

The Graduate certificate is offered as an On line program.

Admissions:

The admission requirements for the Graduate Certificate program include having a:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program; accreditation by either the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education
  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse license

Admission applications are accepted for Fall Semester, Spring Semester, and Summer Session. Students may enter the program and begin studies for any one of the three semesters. All admission materials should be submitted by the deadlines listed on www.mcccn.edu prior to the semester the student plans to begin studies. The admission materials to be submitted for consideration in the program include:

  • Completed application form and $30 application fee
  • Official transcript(s) from master’s program in Nursing
  • Current résumé

When completing the precepted practicum, students must meet the compliance requirements of all agencies.

Student Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of the Graduate Certificate in Nursing Education, graduates will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Assume advanced nursing roles in education
  2. Develop appropriate programs that respond to the educational & health care needs of diverse populations
  3. Use epidemiological, social, and environmental data to draw inferences for the development of nursing education programs
  4. Design health promotion and disease prevention educational programs
  5. Evaluate nursing education program(s) and policies to assure quality outcomes
  6. Demonstrate leadership in nursing education
  7. Use ethical decision making in relevant practice roles
  8. Collaborate with other disciplines to achieve quality outcomes in nursing education
  9. Facilitate the use of evidence-based practice in nursing curricula
  10. Promote nursing as a profession and a discipline
  11. Demonstrates scholarly inquiry through verbal and written communication in educational scholarship

*** ”Option to waive the NURS 547 - Educator Practicum  for the Graduate Certificate student if evidence of professional teaching experience is provided. Certificate would be awarded upon successful completion of NURS 542 , NURS 546 , NURS 543  (Graduate Council 4/2/07)
