Graduate Certificate Programs



Admission Criteria

Nursing Administration or Nursing Education

The admission requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Nursing Administration or Nursing Education include having a:

  • Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MS or MSN) from an accredited program – accreditation by either the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) [formerly the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)] or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
  • Current unrestricted Ohio RN license or eligibility for Ohio RN licensure

Application Materials:

  • Completed application
  • $30 application fee
  • Official transcript(s) from Master’s program in Nursing
  • Current resume

Application Deadlines:

Admission applications are accepted for Fall Semester, Spring Semesters or Summer Session. Applications and associated materials are accepted during the following periods prior to the entering semester.

 Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner

 The admission requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner are the same as the the Master’s Degree program admission:

  • Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MS or MSN) from an accredited program – accreditation by either the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) [formerly the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)] or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE)
  • A cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0, on a 4.0 scale, in the baccalaureate nursing program
  • PREREQUISITES: Undergraduate Statistics and Research courses with letter grades of “C” or higher in both
  • Current unrestricted Ohio RN license or eligibility for Ohio RN licensure
  • For Nurse Practitioner tracks: face-to-face or phone interview for qualified applicants (at the discretion of the Practitioner faculty)
  • For Nurse Practitioner tracks: one year of recent clinical experience is recommended

Application Materials:

  • Completed application
  • $30 application fee
  • Official transcripts, both graduate and undergraduate, mailed directly to Mount Carmel College of Nursing Admissions Office
  • One page (typed) statement of purpose, written by the applicant, that outlines the applicant’s goals and objectives for the pursuit of graduate studies
  • Current résumé or curriculum vitae
  • Official TOEFL scores: applies to students for whom English is not the native language; minimum required TOEFL score of 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based) or 79-80 (Internet based); TOEFL scores are valid two years from the test date. To learn more about the TOEFL, visit www.ets.org/toefl

Application Deadline:

Transfer Credit

The institution makes no promises to prospective students regarding the acceptance of credit awarded by examination or credit for transfer until an evaluation has been conducted. MCCN refrains from the transcription of credit from other institutions that it does not apply to its own programs.
 

Progression

Students in the Certificate tracks are expected to adhere to the College policies and procedures in the Graduate Catalog and Handbook.

All entering Mount Carmel students are required to demonstrate a minimum level of computer and Internet competency (Technology Proficiency). Students must have the ability to:

  1. Log onto the Internet and other applications with a user ID and password.
  2. Use a search engine on the Internet.
  3. Use the Library databases to retrieve articles.
  4. Receive, send, and reply to email.
  5. Develop, file, revise, edit, and print Microsoft Word documents.
  6. Attach documents/files to email messages and/or assignments.
  7. Follow and participate in an online discussion or chat.

The Technology Proficiency is an independent self-study online exercise.

  • A new student enrolled in any on-line course must complete the Technology Proficiency prior to the start of the first course.
  • A new student enrolled exclusively in onsite courses must complete the Technology Proficiency by the end of week 8 of the first semester of enrollment.
  • A new student will not be permitted to enroll for the second semester until successful completion of the Technology Proficiency requirement.

Graduate Certificate Program Curriculum

When completing the preceptored practicum, students must meet the compliance requirements of all agencies.

  • Graduate Certificate: Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner 
  • Graduate Certificate: Family Nurse Practitioner 
  • Graduate Certificate: Nursing Administration 
  • Graduate Certificate: Nursing Education

Completion

In order to qualify for a Certificate of Completion, candidates must complete all the following requirements. A student deficient in any area will not receive his/her certificate until the requirement is complete.

  • Complete all academic requirements.
  • Program completion within 5 years of date of first enrollment
  • Complete all required coursework with a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA.
  • Fulfill all financial obligations to Mount Carmel College of Nursing.
  • Complete the student exit survey and interview with the Dean of the Graduate Program
  • Complete a Financial Aid Exit Interview (for students who received Federal Stafford Loans).
  • Complete a Business Affairs Exit Interview (for students who received Nursing Student Loans
  • Fulfill all financial and library obligations to Mount Carmel College of Nursing.
